Keystone Resort, situated on the ancestral, high-alpine territory of the Ute (Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱) people, was founded in 1970 by Max and Edna Dercum. For its first decade, the skiing was contained entirely on Dercum Mountain.
In 1984, Keystone executed a massive expansion, opening North Peak. This hat wasn’t just a souvenir for the resort; it was a highly specific promotional piece heralding this brand-new terrain. The text “North Peak at Keystone” was a deliberate marketing tactic to make skiers feel like they were getting two distinct mountains for the price of one lift ticket.
When you hold this hat, you are holding the moment the American ski resort transitioned from a single “ski hill” into an interconnected, multi-peak experience.
